Impact of innate immunity on T and B cell differentiation in autistic children/Altered TLR response in a subset of children with regressive autism

This study focuses on an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) test group categorized as regressive autism, with markedly fluctuating behavioral symptoms and cognitive skills affected by benign immune insults such as common childhood microbial infection. Using blood samples, the study will determine mRNA expression levels in non-monocyte populations in the test group, an ASD control group, and a non-ASD control group. The study will also determine whether mRNAs expressed in natural killer (NK) cells are up-regulated in ASD children as reported by others when RNA was extracted from whole blood. Furthermore, the study will enumerate peripheral blood T regulatory cell, T helper cell (Th17; produces interleukin 17), and memory B cell subsets in the three groups. Project Status
