Enhancing understanding and use of conversational rules in school-aged speakers with autism spectrum disorders

This study will examine the efficacy of a narrative-based intervention program designed to increase comprehension and use of discourse rules in children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Following group treatment periods which utilize cognitive-behavioral approaches and incorporate classic children's literature within motivating activities, increases in those specific pragmatic language skills targeted during the intervention will be measured through a variety of assessments. Participants will also be offered the option to take part in an electrophysiological task designed to measure increases in inferencing post-treatment. Project Status
