State ASD Demonstration Program  

The project provides information, training, technical assistance, & support to families,children and youth with special health care needs, providers, & state agencies to improve the system of care in New Jersey for Children and Youth affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other Developmental Disabilities (DD). A statewide Community of Care Consortium workgroup will incorporate ASD/DD into action plans. Family Resource Specialists will support families at 6 Clinical Enhancement Programs; a youth advisory board will support youth in transition systems change. Six county-based medical home pilots will provide family-centered care. Training & resources will be provided to child care centers (screening & resources); schools (behavioral resources); and families/doctors (insurance reimbursement) regarding ASD. Trained parent partners of CYSHCN-ASD/DD will participate in medical home visits. Project Status

Strategic Plan Objective Yellow dot: Objective has some degree of funding, but less than the recommended amount. 5SC. Implement and evaluate five models of policy and practice-level coordination among State and local agencies to provide integrated and comprehensive community-based supports and services that enhance access to services and supports, self-determination, economic self-sufficiency, and quality of life for people with ASD across the spectrum and their families, (which may include access to augmentative and alternative communication [AAC] technology), with at least one project aimed at the needs of transitioning youth and at least one study to evaluate a model of policy and practice-level coordination among State and local mental health agencies serving people with ASD, by 2015. IACC Recommended Budget: $25,000,000 over 5 years.
