State ASD Demonstration Program  

The organization proposes to implement their state plan to improve the systems of services for children and youth affected by autism spectrum disorder in Utah by accomplishing the following goals: Goal 1: Improve identification and health care of children with ASD/DD by training family/pediatric Medical Homes, dentists, & other providers on screening, intervention and community resources; Goal 2: Improve the quality and accessibility of ASD/DD-related information resources for families and health care providers; Goal 3: Improve capacity of community-based human service providers, educators to recognize early signs and seek early diagnostic and treatment services; and Goal 4: Expand the capacity of the Utah's Family Programs for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs to provide support to families with ASD and facilitate systems integration for ASD services. Strategic Plan Objective Yellow dot: Objective has some degree of funding, but less than the recommended amount. 5SC. Implement and evaluate five models of policy and practice-level coordination among State and local agencies to provide integrated and comprehensive community-based supports and services that enhance access to services and supports, self-determination, economic self-sufficiency, and quality of life for people with ASD across the spectrum and their families, (which may include access to augmentative and alternative communication [AAC] technology), with at least one project aimed at the needs of transitioning youth and at least one study to evaluate a model of policy and practice-level coordination among State and local mental health agencies serving people with ASD, by 2015. IACC Recommended Budget: $25,000,000 over 5 years.
