Description

Denis Jabaudon, M.D., Ph.D., of the University of Geneva, will investigate abnormal formation of neuronal circuits in the neocortex, part of the brain region involved in higher thinking, as being at the core of symptoms of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). He will examine cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie dysfunctional neocortical neuronal circuits in ASD, using a mouse model with autistic-like behaviors. Specifically, Dr. Jabaudon and his colleagues will assess the developmental biology of a critical component of cortical circuits, the distinct classes of neurons that relay information from the sense organs to the cortex. The long term aim of this research is the identification of molecular targets for prevention and treatment of ASD and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
