Description

Description

The PI hypothesizes that prenatal exposure to SSRI will alter serotonin synthesis, reuptake and receptor expression in exposed offspring, which causes social deficits, repetitive behavior, compulsiveness, increased sensitivity to stereotype, reduced cognitive flexibility, impaired sensory filtering. The study will be conducted in animals. Pregnant rats will be treated twice daily during pregnancy and postnatal day 20 with SSRI. The behavior and brain chemistry of the offspring will be tested in validated behavioral tests and brains analyzed by immunohistochemistry and Western blot.
