Description

Description

Sexuality education for students is key to preventing unwanted pregnancy and disease, helping students to advocate for the health and safety of their bodies, and enriching quality of life. Sexuality education poses particular challenges for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), however, who may have difficulty grasping the abstract and social aspects of human sexuality. Individuals with ASD are at risk of victimization in sexual situations, as well as at increased risk of problematic sexual behaviors that can include undesired touching, public masturbation and other illegal activity. The proposed study will investigate the outcomes, acceptability and feasibility of a curriculum to teach comprehensive sexuality education to young adults with ASD. The comprehensive curriculum includes sound information on reproductive and sexual health from experts in both sexuality education and ASD and will be implemented by educators in a community setting.
