Understanding the variables that influence the effectiveness of reinforcers is critical to implement effective interventions to teach new skills and to reduce problem behavior for persons with ASDs. Previous research has demonstrated that motivating operations, such as satiation and deprivation, can influence preference and the effectiveness of reinforcers. In this study, we evaluated the impact of satiation on preference for and reinforcer effectiveness of a) individual reinforcers and b) categories of reinforcers (see Ciccone, Graff, & Ahearn, 2015). Identifying the variables that can influence reinforcer effectiveness can help to maximize an individual's productivity. Data collection is ongoing.
