Description

Description

Functional neuroimaging research at Mount Sinai School of Medicine currently uses functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), which can resolve clusters of activation just millimeters apart. However, the temporal (time measurement) resolution of fMRI is only on the order of several seconds, due in part to intrinsic biological factors. A complimentary imaging technique to fMRI is electroencephalogram (EEG) or event related potentials (ERP), which have temporal resolution on the order of milliseconds. This grant enables the purchase of an MRI-compatible EEG/ERP recording system that will supplement the fMRI data with electrophysiological data in order to expand the scope of the hypotheses that are testable using the Laboratory of Neuroimaging core facility at Mount Sinai. Purchase of this equipment will benefit several NIH-funded researchers conducting studies on various aspects of psychiatric disorders including autism, bipolar disorder, and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

Strategic Plan Objective

Strategic Plan Objective

Green dot: Objective has greater than or equal to the recommended funding. 1SA. Develop, with existing tools, at least one efficient diagnostic instrument (e.g., briefer, less time intensive) that is valid in diverse populations for use in large-scale studies by 2011. IACC Recommended Budget: $5,300,000 over 2 years.
