This project will offer four teacher training options to meet personnel shortages in services of prospective teachers of students with severe disabilities. Specifically, these programs provide: (a) full credential licensure in severe disabilities with updated emphasis on academic content instruction; (b) a graduate certificate to update existing teachers in academic content and evidence/research-based instructional practices; (c) a graduate Certificate in Autism Spectrum Disorders; and (d) access to English language learning and Spanish language coursework for teachers striving to meet the needs of Hispanic students with severe disabilities. The overall aim is to graduate 179 students in via two methods over the course of this project. Option A will be offered via online distance education. Option B will be delivered on campus. METHOD: Activities of this project include: (a) recruiting and hiring staff; (b) selecting and enrolling 179 project students; (c) organizing the project to deliver courses (providing either distance education or on-campus training, depending on the program's track); (d) updating the curriculum to incorporate new evidence-based practice and prepare for synchronous and asynchronous delivery of licensure coursework; (e) evaluating the project to respond to required performance measures; and (f) disseminating the project.
