This project will train 30 Master's and credential candidates enrolled in the area programs for moderate/severe disabilities to serve children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The project aims to form partnerships with San Francisco Bay Area public school systems to allow training in classroom settings. The project will develop curricula and specific pedagogy using a model that includes: (a) providing all participating credential and Master's degree candidates with a foundation in research-based practices in the education of learners with ASD; (b) engaging in specialized coursework to advance participants in the area programs for moderate/severe disabilities; (c) supporting Master's candidates in conducting a study on students with ASD using single-case research designs to investigate the effectiveness of an educational, social, or behavioral intervention based in theory and research related to individuals with ASD. The coursework will include four methods courses in the moderate/severe disabilities program, with two semesters of related, supervised fieldwork in education programs serving students with ASD.
