Low Incidence and Diversity Endorsement Project (LIDE)  

This project will provide training to 25 elementary teachers of special and linguistically diverse learners in a Master's degree and endorsement program in culturally competent, low-incidence special education. Activities of this project include: (a) selecting, training, endorsing, and placing 25 teachers in this low-incidence special education program; (b) providing dual endorsement in special education and linguistically diverse education, as well as becoming a trainer of trainers for up to 25 colleagues/parents each; (c) providing teaching collaborations with expert professionals in autism and other low-incidence disabilities; (d) conducting a project evaluation; and (e) using at least 65% of funds for student support. Evaluate new and existing pre-service and in-service training to increase skill levels in service providers, including direct support workers, parents and legal guardians, education staff, and public service workers to benefit the spectrum of people with ASD and promote interdisciplinary practice by 2015. IACC Recommended Budget: $8,000,000 over 5 years.
