Autism Center and sensory classrooms in the Judith R. Hurl Education Center

The Autism Center and Sensory Classrooms in the Judith R. Hurl Education Center Proposal is to establish two multi-sensory environments in the Judith R. Hurl Education center that will serve as demonstration and learning environments with the objective of enhancing and improving pre-service and current teachers learning experiences and approaches for using sensory-based materials and technology. Additionally, the project intends to establish an Autism Resource Center that will include a Parent Resource Room that can house parent support group activities, serve as a repository for information, and be available for use by outside agencies and constituencies partnering with Bethany College in continuing education, community awareness and outreach activities related to autism, learning disabilities, mental impairments and behavior disorders. A key component of the Autism Center will be the implementation of Distance Learning capabilities that will greatly extend outreach to remote sites and, potentially, individual households. Finally, the project will enhance the capacities and extend the collaboration between the Education Program and the McCann Learning Center at Bethany College. Project Status
