Genome-wide association study of autism

Regression is the loss of previously established language and/or other socio-communicative skill that is rarely seen in other developmental disorders. The researchers hypothesize that genetic variants of modest effect are associated with autism in this subset of children who have a history of regression. Two specific aims will be undertaken to test this hypothesis: 1) Identify a cohort of children with autism characterized by developmental regression in a geographically confined population, and 2) Identify genetic variants associated with autism characterized by a history of regression.
