Scientific Workshop Summary: Diagnosis January 17, 2008
The workshop chair, Catherine Lord, Ph.D., stated that the Diagnosis workshop focused on epidemiology, screening, diagnosis, and behavioral aspects of the ASD phenotype. She described that the research opportunities generated ranged from quick and efficient diagnostic screening to detailed characterization of ASD, particularly as it relates to biological and genetic factors. In addition, the group highlighted the need for community-based studies among minority and low-income populations. The need to add epidemiologic approaches whenever possible was emphasized. There was substantial overlap between some of the opportunities generated by the Diagnosis workshop and other scientific workshops.
