Students with Disabilities: Additional Information from Education Could Help States Provide Pre-Employment Transition Services
October 9, 2018Of the 74 state vocational rehabilitation (VR) agencies that responded to GAO's survey, most reported expanding services to help students with disabilities transition from school to work as required under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), enacted in July 2014. Most state agencies reported serving more students and providing work-based learning experiences and other activities.

National Disability Employment Policy, From the New Deal to the Real Deal: Joining the Industries of the Future
October 16, 2018The National Council on Disability released a report on trends regarding American workers with disabilities being paid below minimum wage, recent policy changes impacting this employment model, and characteristics of for-profit entity use of subminimum wage work in their supply chains. This report is a follow-up to a 2012 report that recommended phasing out subminimum wage. This report renews its previous recommendations; evaluates the progress that the country has made toward that end; highlights the structural barriers that remain; and clearly identifies the risks should service systems not modernize.

September 15, 2016The Advisory Committee on Increasing Competitive Integrated Employment for Individuals with Disabilities made findings, conclusions, and recommendations on ways to increase competitive employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities or other individuals with significant disabilities as well as the use and oversight of the certificate program as carried out under section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938.
