When seeking public comment on specific issues, the IACC issues a formal "Request for Information" or "RFI" through the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. To date, the IACC has issued several RFIs related to the IACC Strategic Plan for ASD Research and priorities for the IACC Services Subcommittee.

The IACC Request for Information (RFI) to solicit public input to inform the 2011 update of the IACC Strategic Plan for Autism Spectrum Disorder Research is now closed. During the six-week public comment period (June 18 – July 30, 2010), members of the public were asked to provide input to the committee on what has been learned in the past year about the issues covered in each of the seven chapters of the IACC Strategic Plan, and on what are the remaining gaps in the subject area covered by each chapter. In addition, the committee sought input on the introductory chapter and other general comments about the Strategic Plan. Request for Information: Updating the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee Strategic Plan for ASD Research

The IACC issued a formal Request for Information (RFI) to solicit public input to inform the 2010 update of the Strategic Plan in July 2009. During the four-week comment period (July 23 – August 21, 2009), members of the public provided input on missing and underrepresented research topics or knowledge areas in the 2009 IACC Strategic Plan for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Research, potential new research opportunities, and suggestions for prioritizing the Strategic Plan research objectives.
The IACC received a total of 290 submitted RFI responses. Individual respondents included people self-identified with ASD; parents or relatives of a person with ASD; professionals involved in the diagnosis, care, and/or education of people with ASD; and researchers in ASD and other fields. Examples of organizations that responded included state autism societies; state and local ASD service providers; ASD-specific foundations; advocacy organizations; and professional organizations. Respondents shared from their day-to-day experiences with ASD and expressed a great diversity of opinions and perspectives.
